Blue Star Flags

Created in 1917, Blue Star Service Banners were a common sight during WWI and WWII. The banner is usually displayed in a window to show that a family member is currently serving in the Armed Forces.

If you have a relative serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Marine Corps, and would like an 8 by 16 inch blue star service flag, please contact us at 201-337-9845 and we will provide a flag free of charge.

Proper Flag Disposal

The proper way to dispose of a worn or damaged American flag is by burning. The American Legion holds an annual flag-burning ceremony. If you have a flag that is ready for disposal, you may leave it at the Oakland Post Office. We will pick it up and properly dispose of it at our annual ceremony.
