About Us

Members of the American Expeditionary Force that served in Europe during WWI founded The American Legion on March 15, 1919. That same year, The American Legion was chartered by the U.S. Congress as a patriotic, mutual-help, wartime veteran's organization. We are the largest veteran's organization in the United States with 3 million members and 15 thousand American Legion posts nationwide.
